Chicagoans tend to be ambivalent about Lollapalooza. We bristle about the controversial radius clause and bemoan the festival’s overwhelming, sunstroked enormity. (There’s an iPhone App available to help navigate the 30-plus-hour, multi-stage marathon.) But, short of Coachella’s desert pilgrimage, no other American festival offers fans the chance to see a promising act nearly every waking hour of the weekend. The big-selling headliners, perhaps inevitably, are of a blustery sort (Eminem, Coldplay, Muse). Still, the huge spate of indie rock, pop, R&B, and dance music should provide several hits for most tastes.
Lollapalooza 2011 kicks off on August 5th in Grant Park and will continue daily through August 7th. Check out Flavorpill for more information on this event and all the other cultural happenings in your city.
